Describe The Setting

In this section you should write about the setting of your book. Begin by describing the physical location- country, state, city, etc. But also consider the "mood" of the setting.

  1. Impulse by Ellen Hopkins

This book is set in a treatment facility.

The mood is depressing and the building is plain. The patients of the facility have to follow rules and eat the discusting food. The mood is dull within the self destructive patients at least until emotion lets loose.

  2. I'm reading "Impulse" by Ellen Hopkins as well.

The main setting of the book is in Aspen Springs, a psychiatric hospital in an undisclosed location.

The mood in the place is somber, dull, and depressing. None of the patients (characters) want to be there. It is also a very dramatic and chaotic place to be - with everybody dealing with their own issues. Fights break out occassionally as well.

The place to me seems 'secretive.' They don't talk much about outside of it and the people that come to visit (family, friends, etc.) don't like the atmosphere much and don't want to even visit them there.

Also, it seems like the therapists, counselors, psychiatrists, etc. are controlling and trying to force kids to follow through with their requests otherwise they won't get out or advance to the next 'Level.' Part of me says the workers don't even care. They just want to push everybody around. The other part of me says that if you don't push people around sometimes, they won't get where they want to go.

To the characters this place is a prison. Some of them say that it is even worse than Juvie.

  4. Im reading "Red Earth, White Earth"

The book starts out in north-western Minnesota on a dairy farm. The mood is boring because Guy, the main character, is a only child with nothing to do but work on the farm.

  5. Yo!!! Dirty Harry here again... You all know were supposed to be here blogging... BLAH!!! Bu t whatever here it goes! My book, "Sunrise Over Fallujah", is set when we first entered the War in Iraq. The setting is very well described. They give specific detais of the terrain, culture, and people of Iraq. By doing so they gave me a vague picture in my mind that I was ablel to put myself in the book with. Although I am not much of a reader, this book strikes my interst magnificiantly!!! I don't even know if thats a word, but whatever. Alright! Well that's all I have for now, let me keep reading and i'll get back to you as soon as I am able to give a better description of the setting for you.

  6. In the book, "Exit Here" the setting takes place in one of travis's friends basement, where.......unfortunetly, they are cutting lines and snorting them. (eewwwwwww in my opinion.......i mean who in their right mind would want to do something as stupid as that.....honestly) Anyways, after awhile of that......the setting drifts into a more elegant spot, a very nice, very classy resturant where travis is suppost to meet his parents...........

  11. One of my settings is in the house of Katie. It does not give any details about much it's just a small cozy house. The other setting is Martha's Vinetard it has a very small town home feeling for the people that live there. It seems like a nice loving place to live.

  12. One of my settings it Bella's house. Because after since Edward had left her she never really left the house to do anything and than her dad started to get upset with her and threatened her that she would have to go live with her mom and so she started hanging out with her friends again a little bit until she started hanging out with Jacob Black all the time. Than after she started doing that she spent most of her time down in La Push at Jacobs house either down at the beach or watching Jacob work on motorcycles that she had bought.

  13. The setting in Adam's book, "Nailed" can relate to my book in some ways.

The characters in my book fear going home back to the place where so many bad memories lie.

Also, Conner in my book, can relate to the whole school and girlfriend situation. Even though those weren't the best places and influences for him either, it was better than home where he always felt the pressure of being perfect.

Very much similar to the situation in "Nailed."

  14. Handle with Care by Jodi Picoult.

This story is set in a small town on the upper east shore. The O'Keefes live in a small house, but are constantly busy with amilia's ice skating, and Willows Doctors appointments. sean is gone all day on patrol for the town police department, while Charlotte stays home with the girls. Charlotte has her saving grace wich is her best friend Piper, up untill the friendship ends with Charlotte suing Piper for malpractice during her pregnacy many years ago. This story is being told by four different people, which makes you feel like your being pulled in four different ways, feeling each side of this amazing story.

  15. Another setting in my book is Jakes house on the reservations in La Push where bella spends most of her time with Jake when edward leaves her. They did a lot of things together. walked on the beach, worked on their motorcyles, and riding them. Jake's house was like Bella's second home. They were always together. And even if Jake wasnt there Bella would find something to do and wait for him.

  16. My book The kind of friends we used to be takes place in a few different places in the begining of the book she is at a grils house who's name was Marcie Grossman's. A little later in the book they where at there school for cheerleading practice and normal school in general. you could also say that another setting would be in the class room of her creative writting class that kate had started writting songs to play on the guitar. so that are just a few of the settings in my book.

  18. My book starts out in the heat of battle. The stench of death, rivers of blood bodys all around. The land of Maras-Dantia is in a constent state of war. The wolverines are assulting a farm house with human solder held up inside.

  19. Moonlight Bay is the home of this crazy phenominon. Its located on the seas edge and always at night being Chris has XP and can never and will never venture into the day for the light will kill him. The darkness just adds to the mystery of the story.

  20. My book executive decision written by Vince Flynn takes place in mostly washington but jumps over to paris, israel, palestine and the philipines because that is where the action takes the CIA spy.

  21. My books setting sounds sounds most like Mj's book they are in a small town by a shore. Thats the same my book is a small town on a vintard.

    ReplyDelete
  22. My book Impulse can relate to Adams because all the the characters do not like their homelife at all

    ReplyDelete
  23. I would say that my book relates to kayla's setting because mine didn't really give alot of detail where the setting was just that it was at somebodys house and also at the school.

  24. The setting so far is that the two boys are in a big city it sounds like a Minneaplois but its not that town. They both live in apartments, the apartments they live in are all runned down and crappy so they live in the poor part of town! There parents can barly make way so the both of them have a big struggle to pay for things but there hoping they both make it somewhere in basketball so then that will pay for there needs. Thats what i have so far!!!!!

  25. The setting of my book Twilight was mostly set in a little town called forks in northern America. It was always raining, always dark. Which I later found out was a big part of the story because Edward couldn't come outside in the sunlight. So by Forks always being dark and raining, the Cullen family could come out like normal humans. Bella on the other hand disliked the rain and dark clouds, it made it hard for her to sleep and concentrate on anything else. She was so used to the sun and beaches.

  26. The setting of my book is out west on the wagon trail. It is dry, dusty, and barron in most places. The wagon party is on their way to California from the east coast. The mood of the setting is somewhat harsh and untrusting. It is also kind of depressed as the party struggles to reach California as quick and as safe as possible.

  27. My book and fourSwitch7's book have something in common. There is talk of a huge bloody battle at the begining of my book also. The wounding of men and the killing of indian's as they follow their wagon trail.

  28. Z-Dub's book and mine have similar settings because they are both on farms. They both have to do chore and work on the farm.

  29. The setting of Rolling Thunder is in Tennese and the Carolinas and the majority of the east coast. That is where most of the stock car racing take places.

    ReplyDelete
  30. As like Kaylas book my main character gets banged up in a racing accident and he has to rest back in his small house to get better for the race next sunday.

  31. like dirty harry's setting there are parts in my book that take place over in the middle east. not exacly iraq or iran but in palestine and israel.

  32. The setting of the book the westing game, takes place for the most part in the sunset towers. this is where all of the heirs live.

    ReplyDelete
  33. This story also takes place during fall and winter on lake michigan. the tenants of sunset towers get snowed in to their apartments and are having trouble soving the mystery...

    ReplyDelete
  34. my book and MJ's book are related because we both have our stories take place near water. MJ's is on the northshore and my story takes place on lake michigan.

    ReplyDelete
  35. My book Can relate to Kaylaholthaus's book Twilight, because both of out books are set in small towns some where in america. Also because our characters live in these small towns.

    ReplyDelete
  36. The setting of my book begins in a small poor village somewhere in Mexico. Throughout the sons quest to find work in the U.S. the setting changes from desert to mountains and finally to washington in the asparagus fields.

    ReplyDelete
  37. My setting is like funky's because it starts out on a farm like his and the mood is also depressing.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I can relate to Kaylaholthaus's setting because its not that my book is in America's small town but it is set in locations that are smaller towns in Iraq. There is nothing else to compare so SCREW IT!!!

    ReplyDelete
  39. the setting of my book is in a city called pine cove. its like a typical small town. nothing interesting has happened in the town at all. so for that the whole town is constantly depressed. they are dying for something interesting to happen.

    ReplyDelete
  40. my book somewhat relates to twilight where it is set in a small town. where in the beginning nothing ever dramatic happens and then crazy stuff randomly happens within that small town.

    ReplyDelete
  41. my book is actually set in alot of places from the desert to a submarine in the ocean its alot of different settings

    ReplyDelete
  42. Most of my book "Fear Nothing" has to take place at night being the main character Chris cant venture out into the sunlight or any bright place for that matter. This also limits the book to only a single city and how far he can travel on his bike. Its a small town on the beach of cali. The mood stays almost the same through the whole book you know the gloomy whats gona be around the corner next deal. He does move in with his DJ girlfriend have make some lovin but other than that its "kill the monkys and discover what happened to his dead parents and how they distroyed the world as we know it".

    ReplyDelete
  43. Now at the end the setting is still the same because it doesnt really say much about if they moved or are moving well it does say that marcus moves but doesnt say where to? so the setting stays the same throughout the book.

    ReplyDelete
  44. My book relates to fourswitch (or whatever it is) because the setting is a very bloody war feeling. When my characters are in the town it is a setting that feels like a war because buildings are being burned and people are killing. It didnt sound to bloody but it sounded pretty crazy to me.

    ReplyDelete
  45. My books setting relates the most to parabellums, because Mitch spent some time in washington for a tax law seminar. He aslo met up with the FBI there to talk about getting information to put the mob in prison.

    ReplyDelete
  46. The setting of my book was In a town Called Tinkersville. The town was named after one of the characters in the book.It doesn't really say what state the town is located but it is in the U.S. Anyways it is a old Western story so it probably took place during the 1800's. Men used horses to travel. Anyways the town of Tinkersville was a very small town and everyou new exactly who everyone was, about everyone, and what everyone was doing. Deep Creek Range was near the town where Clay Bell lived the Range had the richest soil around and also had the tallest timber.

    ReplyDelete
  47. The setting of my book is similar to Gangsta's book because it took place out west. It is dry and hot and there are not many people in the town. I'm sure many of the same transportation uses are the same and so on.

    ReplyDelete
  48. like 100%corn-fed farm boy the books setting is kinda based in the north western parts, the setting is pretty boring because it always gray and raining nothing really exciting happens, until Bella arrives.

    ReplyDelete
  49. my books new setting can probly be best compared to parabellums setting, not exactly thow but its the closest. the wolveriens have moved out to get back to Cairnbarrow. they are a day behind so they must take a short cut threw the desert (idk if thats the right spelling i suck at spelling), they go try to go threw a pass in the canyons but they are ambushed by Kobalds (skrowny little rat like people).
